The Meralco masterplan: How clean, sustainable energy power the good life

Powering the Good Life
Earlier this year, Meralco has been named among the world’s most socially and environmentally responsible firms due to the company’s key initiatives under its sustainability agenda. This feat is not only a win for the company but also for the planet, as it validates the company’s efforts in making a greater impact on society and the environment.
It all goes back to 2019 which was when Meralco rightly made the decision to place sustainability at the top of its corporate agenda and at the core of its strategy and operations as a company.
Called “Powering the Good Life,” Meralco’s sustainability agenda covers the utility company’s well-defined initiatives as well as its long-term sustainability aspirations that center on four pillars: Power, Planet, People and Prosperity.
Moreover, the plan also serves as a roadmap for the company as it charts toward a just, orderly and affordable transition to clean energy. This includes its 10-year strategy to transition to cleaner energy by developing 1,500 megawatts of renewable energy projects in seven years.

Sustainability as the way forward
While keeping electricity flowing from its grid to homes and offices to continue powering industries and energizing the economy, Meralco embraces sustainability to better serve the people and the planet.
Among Meralco’s latest sustainability initiatives is its support of the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP), which promotes the utilization of indigenous, new and renewable energy resources to reduce dependence on imported energy.
While switching to GEOP is currently voluntary, the program offers benefits such as the opportunity to contribute to the development and use of renewables in a least-cost and sustainable manner by utilizing energy supplied by 100% renewable sources.
Today, “Powering the good life” has not been just a mission for Meralco, but also a way of life. In the years to come, it will continue to develop and elevate its agenda to better contribute to global Sustainability Development Goals.
